School Officer Saves Child Almost Pinned Between 2 Cars

A quick-acting school resource officer is being hailed as a hero for rescuing a kindergartener who almost got caught between two vehicles. Although he’s been in law enforcement for over 20 years, last week was only Office Mike Stallone’s third week working at West Ridge Elementary School in Park Ridge, New Jersey. His new position makes him responsible for students’ safety and he’s already proven to be up for the job.

In a nail-biting scene caught on surveillance video, a tiny student walks between two cars on her way onto campus in the morning. For some reason, she turns around and starts to walk back between the cars when the car in front begins to back up toward the car behind it, leaving the little girl in a dangerous spot. But right then, Officer Stallone sees what’s happening and rushes over, stepping between the cars and scooping the girl up and out of the way.

Park Ridge Police Captain Joseph Rampolla commended Stallone for his heroic act, adding, "We're here to do whatever we can to try and make it a safe environment for the kids." But for Stallone, his role at the school isn’t just a job, it’s a commitment to the community and to the students he serves. "It's a pleasure, the kids are truly precious," Stallone says, "It's good to be able to take care of the kids and make sure they have a great childhood here."
